We had a great Thanksgiving Day morning... we were totally at leisure getting ourselves out of bed. After breakfast, we made green beans to take to our "feast" at Andy's Aunt Carol Sue's house. Jennah LOVED helping with the beans. Nibley, on the other hand, did not participate in the family activity... he kept to himself under our bed, as usual.
Then Thursday night, after our big dinner... I had my silent question answered.
Would I know if my child was allergic to something?
It started with little bumps... that looked exactly like flea bites, then within 90 minutes Jennah had welts up the trunk of her body and in her little armpits. By Friday, she had red/swollen joints that a fever. By Friday night she had dark red marks/splotches all over her thighs, arms... the doctor's office said to push fluids, give her Benadryl and call if it got worse. Oh my... did it get worse. I've bragged before that Jennah is the best sick child in the world... so if she does cry I know it's really BAD! She was in tears by Friday night and all I could do was hold her. By 3am Saturday morning, she had no wrists or ankles. She looked like me pregnant with eclampsia. She started bruising where she was the most swollen. She couldn't walk her feet and legs were so swollen! I'd had enough and called the Doctor Saturday morning. We were in the office within 12 minutes. After both the Doctor and Nurse Practicioner looked at her, they pulled out the medical textbooks and showed us pictures of babies that looked like Jennah. She has "Serum Sickness" (google it!). A week before Thanksgiving, Jennah had an ear infection (after being sick for about 5 weeks and not showing any symptoms of an ear ache... because she's the world's best sick child!). She had taken Amoxicillin before for another infection back in September... the doctor gave her the same thing this time... I guess her little body had finally had enough.
And of course- here's our Little Miss Jennah, happy as can be... speckles and all, playing on her toys that we picked up off of Craig's list for a steal!
What a blessed spirit we have in our home!

That is so scary when they get sick like that. Will is allergic to Penicillin and so is Ellie. Must be an Anderson thing. Hope she has a speedy recovery!

I'm happy to hear that Jennah is doing better.
Poor little thing. That doesn't look fun at all. It's so hard when they are sick. You want to be sick in their place.
On a separate issue, you have Baby Einstein DVD's don't you? Which one/ones are your favorites?
i'm glad she's doing better!! how scary that must have been.
